Look in backgrounds for "StoryBook Fantasy Backgrounds" [link] I hope you all enjoy my creation, Foxfire ---- Thank you for viewing ! -------------------------------- FYI- For those of you that do not know what a Foxfire is.. Here is a bit of info for you guys - The Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Ed Foxfire is a natural phenomenon sometimes visible at night in forests. It's caused by bioluminescent fungi in special conditionsusually on rotting bark. Foxfire is caused by a range of different species of fungi, though Armillaria mellea appears to be the most common source. This particular species emits a bluish-green or Yellow glow. I've also come across reports of redish lights, however, which are most probably caused by other species. Recorded observations of fungal luminescence date back to Aristotle and Pliny the Elder. Pliny identified an "Agaricke" that "grows on the tops of trees and shines at night. "Renaissance philosophers wrote of `"Fungus igneus, which shines like stars with a bluish light. "In folklore, "Fairy sparks" in decaying wood indicated the place where fairies held their nightly revels. Some other synonyms reveal what cultures thought about them: "treasure lights", of Danish origin, suggests that they are the marking places of treasure; "corpse candles" suggests that they're the souls of the departed; "fairy lights", which now mean quite a different thing, suggest that they're the work of (or indeed are) fairies. I was kind of inspired to make my Foxfire piece because I have been reading a lot lately about the "Mysterious Orbs" You can read alittle bit here [link] and also if you want to know more just google "Orbs" I think you will find it fasinating to read about and maybe a little spooky ! |
